Haggai 1:6 offers a profound reflection on the emptiness we often feel in life, despite all our efforts and material achievements.

"You have sown much, but harvested little; you eat, but you are not satisfied; you drink, but you are still thirsty; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put into a bag with holes." (Haggai 1:6)

We live in a world where success is often measured by what we possess and how much we accumulate. However, Haggai warns us about the futility of this relentless pursuit. We plant much, but reap little; we eat, but are not satisfied; we drink, but are still thirsty. We wear fine clothes, but we are not warm. And the wages we earn seem to disappear as if placed in a bag with holes.

This passage calls us to reevaluate our priorities and focus on what truly matters. Jesus teaches us that true satisfaction does not come from material things, but from an intimate relationship with God. He is the source of all fullness and contentment. When we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all these things will be added to us (Matthew 6:33).

We must cultivate a life of faith and devotion, where our work and efforts are dedicated to glorifying God and serving others. In doing so, we discover that the peace and satisfaction we seek are not found in possessions or money, but in the presence of God in our lives. Thus, each act of planting, eating, drinking, and clothing ourselves takes on new meaning, becoming an expression of gratitude and trust in God's providence.

Let us redirect our hearts and minds toward what truly matters, finding in God the true source of our satisfaction and joy.

Find fullness in God.

  • Seek the kingdom of God first, above all else.

  • Dedicate your work and efforts to glorifying God daily.

  • Cultivate gratitude and trust in God in every circumstance.

Prayer:

Lord God, help us seek Your presence above all things. Teach us to find our satisfaction in You, not in material things. Guide our efforts toward Your glory and fill our hearts with gratitude and trust in Your provision. Help us live with purpose, always dedicating our lives to Your service. In Jesus' name, Amen.
