And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)
The peace that comes from God is incomparable to the peace (happiness, security, and stability) that the world offers. It’s not a frivolous or fantasy peace. It is a real peace that we can enjoy even when we are surrounded by wars or afflictions. God is the source of true peace!
This peace doesn’t mean that everything goes well for us, but it is a sign that our hearts are anchored in the Eternal Rock, who always affirms and sustains us. Yes, this peace of God exceeds all understanding. It is not fleeting, nor does it depend on circumstances. His peace coexists with suffering and fills the heart with comfort, even when we face valleys and darkness in life.
Do not be anxious. Trust that God is still in control of everything, and He will sustain your heart and mind through the strength of Jesus.
The peace of God guards the heart.
Pray and ask for God's peace. He calms the heart and conscience that are in distress and fear.
Rest your heart in the Lord. When it seems like the pains of the world overwhelm us, exchange your heavy burden for Jesus’. Remember that He is by your side and cares for you in your anguish.
Fill your mind with God’s Word and strengthen your faith in the Scriptures. With that nourishment, you will regain the strength you need each day.
Share the peace of God! It is our mission (and an act of love) to lead desperate and panicked people to the living hope that is in Christ (1 Peter 1:3).
To pray:
Lord my God, give us Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Teach me to trust in You, even when everything seems lost and devastated. Nothing and no one can separate us from the great love of Jesus Christ! Guard my heart and my mind in You, Lord, today and always. Amen.
