Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. (Matthew 9:35-36)
Jesus' ministry of preaching, teaching, and healing was driven by a very simple feeling. He did not do it for fame, attention, or money. What motivated Jesus was his compassion for the people.
The fact that the crowds did not truly know God the Father, that they lacked spiritual leadership, and that they were immersed in their sins and diseases, moved Christ to act. The situation of the people today is not very different. The truth is that many are still as miserable as before, but they don't even realize it.
You need to act! Mercy should compel you to step out of your place to help those around you. Be like Christ and have compassion for the poor, the weak, the lost, and sinners. He gave his life for their salvation—spread this message!
Rise up and help.
Have mercy! Remember, you too are a recipient of God's mercy. Recognize what God has done in your life.
Realize that your neighbor also needs mercy—help them as you can.
At the very least, pray for those around you. The one who does more than you is God, and He does much.
Prayer:
Lord, my beloved God, God of mercy, I ask you to shape my heart so that I can see as Jesus saw. I do not want a heart of stone, insensitive and disconnected from you. Instead, I want to live your commandments as the source of life. Please do your work in me! In the name of Jesus, Amen.
