2 Kings 22:8-9a

The high priest Hilkiah said to the secretary Shaphan, "I have found the Book of the Law in the temple of the Lord." He gave it to Shaphan, who read it. Then Shaphan went to the king and reported...

When King Josiah began to reign in Israel, he was just a child and did not know the Law of God. Many years later, they found the Book in the temple and brought it before the king. Upon hearing what it said, Josiah humbled himself and repented. He decided in his heart to fulfill everything that was written. The Bible tells us that he pleased the Lord by doing everything correctly.

How many of us would also like to live righteously and please the Lord?

Every day we try to govern our lives in the best possible way, but without the correct references that God has given us in His Word, this will be impossible. If we do not take an interest in the Bible, how can we please God? Is it possible to achieve this without knowing Him personally?

The story of King Josiah illustrates well how we can proceed. Josiah did not know the Word of the Lord, but when he found it, he considered it valuable. He listened and quickly repented. He humbled himself and obeyed.
