He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Silence! Be still!" The wind died down, and it was completely calm.
“Why are you so afraid?” He said to His disciples. “Do you still have no faith?”
They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!”
(Mark 4:39-41)
This passage narrates a very interesting episode from the Gospel. Jesus was in a boat with His disciples, crossing the Sea of Galilee, heading towards the other shore. There were other boats following them. It is quite likely that Jesus was tired because He curled up with a pillow and fell asleep right there in the bow. Suddenly, a great storm began with strong winds and large waves that threatened to flood the boat they were in, as well as the other boats that followed them.
The disciples were desperate! Although they were skilled in boat handling strategies, this situation was beyond them. They feared the worst... In the midst of their distress, they might have thought, "How is it possible that He can sleep in the middle of this great storm?" But it's simple: Jesus had control over all things, even that which caused His friends to fear. They cried out to the Master to calm the storm, and He did.
Trust in the Sovereign Control of Jesus

Believe that Jesus is all-powerful. His power surpasses the forces of nature and all the powers of this world. Surrender the control of your life to the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only one who can take care of you and give you eternal security. Do not fear the adverse circumstances that arise if Jesus is in control of your life. Seek Jesus when you find yourself in the midst of life's storms. Trust that the boat will not sink because He is present. Cry out to God; He has dominion and power over the entire universe. He will bring peace to your heart. Share the Gospel of the grace of Jesus Christ with others. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
To Pray: Lord my God, thank You for teaching me to trust in You. Nothing can contain Your strength, and nothing compares to Your power. I don’t know how it is possible that I sometimes feel fear in the midst of circumstances! I know that You are always with me... Help me to believe in You. I will cry out for Your help when all seems lost and when my heart is troubled. Calm the storm, Lord! Help me to perceive Your serenity and trust that You are in control of all things. In the name of Jesus, amen.
