Proverbs 17:17"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity."

In the increasingly individualistic and materialistic world we live in, we are constantly tempted by selfish desires and the neglect of others' needs. We are surrounded by values that prioritize "self" and "having" rather than "being" and loving. This leads us to stop seeing others as valuable and worthy of our love, friendship, and care. Sadly, we often adopt this posture of isolation and indifference, even in our relationships with family and friends.

If we don’t have trustworthy friends by our side, it may be a sign that we’re not being the friends we ought to be. Many people around us are waiting to count on us. Jesus Christ, our best friend, also teaches us to love and to be good friends to those near us. If you feel like you don’t have a friend who is there for you in all circumstances, be that friend to someone in need. How precious it is to give (and also have) the support and love of a true friend!

Be a friend at all times:

  • Be a better friend to your friends, and seek to be near them at all times like a brother.

  • Enjoy joyful moments of fellowship, but don't distance yourself when they need you most.

  • Give what you expect to receive. If you wish to have sincere friends, take the initiative—be a true friend.

  • Friends may disappoint us because, like us, they are human and make mistakes. No matter what happens, it's worth opening our hearts to love, forgive, and stay united.

  • If you believe you don't have friends, start with those in your own home. Love, care for, and befriend your family members.

  • Pray for your friends. Pray with them. Take care of those whom God has placed in your life.

  • Share, read, and study the Word of God with the friends He adds and places by your side.

  • Always count on the best friend: Jesus Christ!

To Pray:

Lord my God, you are the best friend we could ever have in this life: always present, always faithful… With you, I learn to be a better friend, loving and serving my neighbor as you love and care for me. Help me to be a good friend to those around me. Teach me to care for, to be interested in, and to love everyone who crosses my path, especially in their most difficult moments. Thank you for adding special people to my life: family, friends, and brothers who make the journey fuller and happier. Amen.
